Born in Jalisco, Mexico and raised South Central Los Angeles, the Napa Valley was the last place that Luis expected to find a long lasting career working within the wine industry. A family man at heart, Luis grew up in a large family of seven children in the heart of LA and to this day, he is still a Dodger fan despite living in the Bay Area since 2004 where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
A chance visit to the Bay Area to hear his brother’s band in 2004 started his accidental wine career at Napa Wine Company. A love of the industry and tenacity brought him to Silenus in 2012 as a harvest intern and he was later hired as a full time employee in 2013. Luis became Cellarmaster in 2014 and with just two weeks into his new role, the 2014 earthquake caused mayhem in the cellar. Always able to see the bright side, Luis took the opportunity to rebuild the cellar with earthquake resistant racks that can withstand the largest of shocks . His love of people, challenges and a positive attitude keeps him loving his job despite the long hours of harvest. When he’s not at the winery, you can find him watching a baseball game or swimming with his daughters.
