The 2009 Silenus Napa Valley Merlot is grown and matured next to the estate vineyards surrounding the winery. The wine was aged for 26 months in oak barrels. 50% of the oak was new fine grain French oak. This is an age-worthy Merlot.
The Silenus 2009 Merlot has a pretty ruby red color. There are aromas of rhubarb, cranberry, cocoa, and toasted oak. The wine has a nice, round mouth-feel with blueberries, black cherry, cinnamon and caramel. On the finish, flavors of English toffee and blackberry tart carry on. This is a bold, very densely flavored Merlot.
